Other forms: gigabytes
A gigabyte is a unit of digital storage — roughly a thousand photographs' worth. Abbreviated to GB on every device you own.
The ladder runs kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, terabyte, each about a thousand times the last. There is a long-running annoyance here, since manufacturers count a gigabyte as a billion bytes and computers count it as slightly more, which is why a drive sold as five hundred gigabytes shows less when you plug it in. Phone plans are sold in gigabytes of data, which is the sense most people meet monthly.
