goat

UK/ɡəʊt/US/ɡoʊt/
nounA2Very common — you will meet it every day · #2,381 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: goats

A goat is a farm animal with horns that eats almost anything. A herd of goats, goat's cheese, a mountain goat.

The reputation for eating anything is half deserved: goats browse rather than graze and taste everything, which is why they strip a hedge and chew a shirt. They have rectangular pupils and can climb astonishingly steep rock. In modern slang the GOAT is the greatest of all time, from the initials.
