Other forms: gophers
A gopher is a burrowing American rodent with cheek pouches. A gopher hole, gophers in the lawn, trap the gopher.
The pouches are outside the mouth and are fur-lined, and the animal turns them inside out to empty them. The name is probably from a French word for a honeycomb, from the look of the tunnels.

gopher
Perhaps an adaptation of frc gaufre literally “honeycomb, waffle”, based on the analogy of holes in the ground to the indentations in a honeycomb or a waffle (a doublet of waffle). Alternatively, from nai-mus.
