hairnet

US/ˈhɛɹˌnɛt/
nounB2+Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #12,485 of 15,258leans spoken

Other forms: hairnets

A hairnet is a fine mesh worn to keep hair in place. Wear a hairnet, a kitchen hairnet, tuck it into the hairnet.

In food preparation it is a legal requirement in most places, since a hair in a meal is a contamination rather than merely unpleasant. Dancers and nurses wear them too, and the fine invisible kind is worn over a bun rather than the whole head.
