hand in

phraseB12 meaningsNot compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

To hand in is to give your finished work to the teacher or the boss. Across the desk, and out of your hands.

School and university use it constantly, and a hand-in date is a deadline. It splits round an object. There are two other important uses: handing in your notice means resigning, which is one of the standard phrases of working life, and handing in something you found means taking it to the police or to lost property. American English says turn in for the schoolwork sense.
