Other forms: highlighters
A highlighter is the bright marker used to colour over important lines. A yellow highlighter, highlighter pen, highlight the key points.
The ink is transparent so the text shows through, and fluorescent yellow is the standard because it photocopies as almost nothing. Highlighting a whole page defeats the purpose, which is a lesson most students learn in about a term. Note highlight, both the verb and the noun meaning the best part; and that in cosmetics a highlighter is a product that catches the light on the face, which is a different thing entirely.
