honors

UK/ˈɒn.əz/US/ˈɑn.ɚz/
nounB2Common in everyday speech and writing · #4,069 of 15,258leans written

Honors is the distinction awarded to degrees earned with excellent grades. An honors degree, graduate with honors, honors student.

This is the American spelling; British English writes honours, and the British system grades an honours degree as first, upper second, lower second or third. In America, honors is also a category of school class taken by stronger students, and Latin honors — cum laude and its higher grades — are printed on the certificate. Note honors thesis; and that the singular honor covers quite different ground.
