Other forms: hotels
A hotel is the building where travellers pay to sleep. Stay in a hotel, book a hotel, the hotel bar.
Hotel room, hotel lobby and hotel chain are standard. Star ratings run from one to five and mean different things in different countries. In French a hôtel is also a grand town house, which is why hôtel de ville means town hall. Note that hotel, hostel, hospital and hospitality are all the same Latin word about guests; and that in the phonetic alphabet Hotel stands for H.
