housewarming

nounB2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #9,530 of 15,258leans spoken

A housewarming is a party given when you move into a new home. Throw a housewarming, a housewarming gift, invited to the housewarming.

The name is literal: guests once brought firewood and lit fires in every room to warm and bless a new house. The custom of bringing something for the home survives even where the fires do not, which is why salt and bread are traditional gifts.
