humor

UK/hjuː.mə(ɹ)/US/ˈhjuːmɚ/
nounB1Very common — you will meet it every day · #1,734 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: humors

Humor is the ability to see and make fun, and what every joke runs on. A sense of humor, dry humor, no sense of humor.

What people find funny varies enormously and the sense of humor is treated as a character trait for that reason. The word is medieval medicine: the four humors were body fluids thought to set temperament, which is why somebody can be in a good humor. Note the British spelling humour.
