Other forms: husbands
A husband is the man somebody is married to. My husband, her ex-husband, husband and wife.
It is one half of the pair with wife, and both are used regardless of the sexes involved in a marriage. There is a separate and old-fashioned verb husband, meaning to use something sparingly — husband your resources, husband your strength — which comes from the same root and is worth knowing when it appears. Note husbandry, meaning farming, especially animal husbandry, which is the same word doing its original job.
