impressions

UK/ɪmˈpɹɛʃənz/US/ɪmˈpɹɛʃənz/
nounC1Common in everyday speech and writing · #4,741 of 15,258neutral

Impressions are how many times an advertisement was shown. Count the impressions, a million impressions, impressions and clicks.

The number counts appearances rather than attention, so impressions can be enormous and worth almost nothing — which is why advertisers moved to counting clicks and then to counting sales. Whether a human being ever saw them is a separate and awkward question.
