judo

UK/ˈd͡ʒuːdəʊ/US/ˈd͡ʒudoʊ/
nounB2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #8,436 of 15,258leans written

Judo is a Japanese sport of throws and holds. Practise judo, a judo throw, a judo club.

Its principle is using the other person's force rather than your own, which is why it suits smaller opponents and why it was designed as education rather than combat. The name means the gentle way, and the belt colours mark grades earned by examination.
