nounA1Very common — you will meet it every day · #2,187 of 15,258mostly written

July is the seventh month, the heart of the summer holidays. In July, the fourth of July, a hot July.

It was renamed for Julius Caesar, who was born in it, and it had been called Quintilis — the fifth month — from the older Roman year that began in March. That old count is why September, the ninth month, carries the Latin for seven. July is usually the warmest month in Europe.
