Other forms: laptops
A laptop is the folding computer you can work on anywhere, even on your knees. Screen on top, keyboard below, hinge between.
The name says exactly what it is for, and it replaced the desktop for most people within twenty years. A notebook is the same thing under a different name, and a netbook was a small cheap version that has largely disappeared. The vocabulary around it is familiar: battery life, charger, trackpad, and the lid you shut at the end of the day. Ironically, using a laptop on a lap is bad for both.
1nounlaptopA portable computer with a screen and keyboard that fold together.
“She opened her laptop on the kitchen table.”
Also accepted in games: notebook
From lap + top, modeled after desktop.
