lawnmower

UK/ˈlɔːn.məʊ.ə/US/ˈlɔn.moʊ.ɚ/
nounB1+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #10,767 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: lawnmowers

A lawnmower is the machine you push to cut the grass. Start the lawnmower, a petrol lawnmower, service the lawnmower.

The cylinder kind cuts with a scissor action and gives the striped finish; the rotary kind chops with a spinning blade and copes with rougher grass. Cutting too short weakens the lawn, which is the commonest mistake anybody makes with one.
