Other forms: layouts

A layout is the arrangement of text and pictures on a page. Design the layout, a clean layout, the page layout.

It decides what the reader looks at first and in what order, which is most of what makes a page readable. Grids, margins and whitespace do the work. The word also covers the arrangement of anything physical: the layout of a kitchen, a factory layout, a model railway layout. Note lay out as the verb, written as two words, where the noun is one.
