leaderboard

nounB2Very rare — outside the 30,000 commonest English words, so you will meet it in writing rather than in speechleans written

Other forms: leaderboards

A leaderboard is the ranked list of who is doing best. Top of the leaderboard, climb the leaderboard, the leaderboard updates live.

It came from golf, where the board beside the course shows the standings, and games and sales offices took it from there. A leaderboard motivates the people near the top and discourages everybody else, which is well documented.
