lebanon

UK/ˈlɛbənən/US/ˈlɛbənɑn/
nounB1+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #9,175 of 15,258mostly written

Lebanon is the small Mediterranean country of Beirut and the ancient cedars. Travel to Lebanon, born in Lebanon, the south of Lebanon.

The cedar on the flag is the tree the Phoenicians sold across the ancient world, and only small groves of the old forest survive. Beirut has been rebuilt after a civil war and a port explosion within one lifetime, and the diaspora is larger than the country.
