lemonade

UK/ˌlɛmənˈeɪd/US/ˈlɛmənˌeɪd/
nounA2+Common in everyday speech and writing · #3,515 of 15,258leans spoken

Lemonade is a cold drink of citrus juice, sugar and water. Sharp, sweet, and best with ice.

The word means two different drinks depending on the country. In Britain lemonade is usually fizzy and clear and comes from a bottle. In America it is still, cloudy and homemade, sold from a stand on a hot pavement by children. Both are lemonade to the people drinking them. There is a well-worn proverb about resilience, since making lemonade when life gives you lemons means turning a bad situation to good use.
