liqueur

US/lɪˈkɝ/
nounB2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #10,314 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: liqueurs

A liqueur is a strong sweet flavoured spirit. A fruit liqueur, a glass of liqueur, coffee liqueur.

The sugar is what makes it one: a spirit with flavour but no sweetening is not a liqueur. It is drunk in small glasses after a meal, or used in cocktails and cooking. Liqueur and liquor are the same word, and the two are constantly confused.
