livestream

nounB2Very rare — outside the 30,000 commonest English words, so you will meet it in writing rather than in speechmostly written

Other forms: livestreams

A livestream is a broadcast watched over the internet as it happens. Watch the livestream, start a livestream, livestream the concert.

There is always a delay of some seconds while the video is packaged and sent, which is why a livestream and a television broadcast of the same event never quite line up. Chat alongside it is what makes it different from television. Note that the compound is live plus stream and is recent.
