logo

UK/ˈləʊ.ɡəʊ/US/ˈloʊ.ɡoʊ/
nounB2Common in everyday speech and writing · #6,258 of 15,258leans written

Other forms: logos

A logo is the symbol that stands for a company at a glance. A shape, a colour, and sometimes not even a name.

The best ones work at any size and in one colour, which is why they get so simple over time. Designers distinguish a wordmark, which is the name styled a particular way, from a symbol that stands alone. Companies protect them fiercely as trademarks. The word is short for logotype, and the plural is logos, which is confusingly also a Greek word for reason.
