loner

UK/ˈləʊ.nə/US/ˈloʊ.nəɹ/
nounB2Common in everyday speech and writing · #4,749 of 15,258leans spoken

Other forms: loners

A loner is a person who prefers their own company. A natural loner, something of a loner, a quiet loner.

The word has been damaged by newspapers, which reach for it after every terrible event until it sounds like a warning sign — most loners are simply people who enjoy solitude and are perfectly well. Preferring your own company is not the same as being lonely.
