look down on

phraseB2Not compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

To look down on somebody is to treat them as beneath you. Look down on the neighbours, look down on the job, made to feel looked down on.

It is always a criticism of the person doing it, never of the person judged. Its exact opposite is look up to, and the pair make a neat picture of where you place people.
