Machine learning is teaching computers by showing them examples instead of writing rules. A machine learning model, machine learning research, trained by machine learning.
The system finds the pattern itself, which is why it can do things nobody could write rules for and why nobody can fully explain what it learned. The term was coined in 1959 by a researcher teaching a computer to play draughts.
