meaningless

UK/ˈmiː.nɪŋ.ləs/US/ˈmiː.nɪŋ.ləs/
adjectiveC1Common in everyday speech and writing · #3,743 of 15,258leans spoken

Meaningless means having no sense or purpose at all. A meaningless gesture, meaningless numbers, utterly meaningless.

It is used two ways: of something that cannot be understood, and of something that changes nothing, which is the sharper criticism. A meaningless statistic is one that has been measured accurately and tells you nothing.
