A milkshake is a cold thick drink of dairy blended with ice cream. A strawberry milkshake, thick milkshake, order a milkshake.

In parts of New England it is called a frappe, and asking for a milkshake there once got you milk with syrup and no ice cream at all. The thickness comes from the ice cream, and shop machines aerate it so it holds more air than you would expect.
