mockup

nounB2+Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #13,726 of 15,258leans written

Other forms: mockups

A mockup is a realistic sample of how something will look. Build a mockup, a full-size mockup, approve the mockup.

It shows appearance rather than function, which is what separates a mockup from a prototype: a mockup of an app is a picture of it, and nothing in it works. Car makers still build full-size clay mockups before any metal is cut.
