montage

UK/mɒnˈtɑːʒ/US/mɑnˈtɑʒ/
nounB2+Common in everyday speech and writing · #7,928 of 15,258leans written

Other forms: montages

A montage is a sequence of short shots cut together to compress time. A training montage, a montage of clips, cut a montage.

It shows weeks in ninety seconds, which is why the training montage became a film cliche. Soviet directors of the 1920s developed the theory behind it: two shots side by side make a meaning that neither carries alone.
