neutralisation

nounC1Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #14,787 of 15,258Too rare in one of the two pools to compare — fewer than 20 uses in speech or in writing

Neutralisation is an acid and a base cancelling each other out. A neutralisation reaction, the neutralisation of the acid, complete neutralisation.

What comes out is a salt and water, and the heat given off is why strong acid and strong base must never be mixed carelessly. Indigestion tablets work this way. This is the British spelling; American writing uses a z.
