newbie

UK/ˈnjuːbi/US/ˈnjuːbi/
nounB1+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #11,469 of 15,258mostly spoken

Other forms: newbies

A newbie is somebody who has only just joined a group or a game. A total newbie, newbie questions, be kind to newbies.

It came out of early internet forums and is half-teasing rather than hostile, which is what separates it from the sharper noob. Calling yourself a newbie is the usual way to ask for patience before a basic question.
