Other forms: notepads
A notepad is a small book of paper for jotting things down. Glued at the top, torn off a sheet at a time.
It is the thing by the telephone, in a coat pocket, on a desk beside a pen — for a shopping list, a name, a number somebody has just read out. The word covers digital ones too: a notepad app, and Notepad the plain text editor that comes with Windows. Close relatives are worth keeping apart, since a notebook is bound and meant to be kept, while a notepad is meant to be torn up and thrown away.
