off-peak

adjectiveB2mostly written

Off-peak means outside the busiest hours, and usually cheaper. An off-peak ticket, travel off-peak.

The price difference exists to move people rather than to reward them, since spreading demand is cheaper than adding capacity. An off-peak ticket bought for the wrong train is worth nothing at all.
