Offshore means out at sea, away from the coast. Offshore wind, an offshore rig, offshore fishing.
In energy it is the standard term: offshore wind farms are built in shallow sea where the wind is stronger and steadier than on land. In finance, offshore means in a jurisdiction outside your own, usually for tax — an offshore account — and the word carries a whiff of concealment it did not always have. Note onshore, which does the opposite work in both senses.
