opposite direction

nounB1Not compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

The opposite direction is the way exactly against the one taken. Turn round, and that is it.

It is used in directions, in traffic reports and in arguments, so two people heading in the opposite direction may be lost or may simply disagree. The phrase always implies a contrast with a direction already mentioned. There is a common figurative use about policy, since moving in the opposite direction means reversing course entirely, and it is a favourite of political comment.
