oregano

UK/ˈɒɹɪˌɡɑːnəʊ/US/əˈɹɛɡənoʊ/
nounB1+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #9,020 of 15,258leans spoken

Oregano is a dried herb that tastes of pizza. Sprinkle oregano, dried oregano, oregano and basil.

It is one of the few herbs better dried than fresh, because drying concentrates the oils rather than destroying them. It is the same plant as wild marjoram, and Greek oregano is the strongest kind. The Greek name is said to mean joy of the mountain.
