overexposed

adjectiveB2+Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #13,986 of 15,258neutral

Overexposed means burnt out and too pale from too much light. An overexposed photograph, overexposed highlights, the shot was overexposed.

The damage is one-way: detail lost in blown highlights cannot be recovered, where shadows usually can be lifted — which is why photographers expose for the bright parts. Of a person, overexposed means seen too often in public.
