Other forms: participants

A participant is somebody who takes part. Study participants, a willing participant, participants were told.

In research it is the required word: subjects was the old term and was dropped because it made people sound like objects, and the change reflects a real shift in how consent is treated. Participants must be told what they are agreeing to and may stop at any time.
