pay scale

nounB2Not compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

A pay scale is the ladder of rates a job can be paid at. Move up the pay scale, top of the pay scale.

It fixes progression by year or by grade rather than by negotiation, which is fairer and slower. A published pay scale is the simplest defence against people being paid differently for the same work.
