Other forms: pedestrians
A pedestrian is somebody travelling through a city on foot. Not in a car, not on a bike — walking.
The word belongs to traffic planning and law, which is why we have pedestrian crossings, a pedestrian zone and pedestrianised streets. Nobody describes themselves as a pedestrian in conversation. There is a completely separate adjective meaning dull and uninspired, so a pedestrian performance plods along, and that use is a real criticism. The link is the plodding, since walking was once the slow and ordinary way to travel.
