peppermint

UK/ˈpɛpəˌmɪnt/US/ˈpɛpɚˌmɪnt/
nounB1Common in everyday speech and writing · #7,186 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: peppermints

Peppermint is a sharp cool flavour taken from a mint plant. Peppermint tea, a peppermint sweet, oil of peppermint.

The cooling is not temperature at all, since the menthol in it triggers the receptors that detect cold, which is the same trick in reverse as chilli. It is a natural hybrid of watermint and spearmint.
