pigsty

UK/ˈpɪɡˌstaɪ̯/US/ˈpɪɡˌstaɪ̯/
nounB2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #8,944 of 15,258leans spoken

Other forms: pigsties

A pigsty is a pen where pigs are kept, or a very untidy room. Clean the pigsty, your room is a pigsty, out to the pigsty.

The insult is unfair to pigs, which keep their sleeping area clean and their dunging area separate when they have room to. They wallow in mud because they cannot sweat, not because they like dirt. In American use the word is usually pigpen.
