A police station is the building where officers of the law work. A front desk, cells at the back, and a light over the door.
It is where somebody is taken after arrest, where statements are given and where lost property ends up. Britain has closed a great many of them, and the front counter open to the public is now rare, which changes how people reach the police. Custody suite is the formal name for the part with the cells, and the desk sergeant is the traditional figure at the front.
