polyester

UK/ˈpɑliˌɛstə(r)/US/ˈpɑliˌɛstə(r)/
nounB1+Common in everyday speech and writing · #7,638 of 15,258neutral

Other forms: polyesters

Polyester is a cheap man-made cloth that dries fast. A polyester shirt, polyester blend, polyester fleece.

It holds its shape, resists creasing and dries quickly, and it does not breathe, which is the whole bargain. Most is made from oil, and washing it sheds microplastic fibres into the water, which is now a serious environmental concern.
