post office

UK/ˈpəʊst ˌɒfɪs/US/ˈpoʊst ˌɔfɪs/
phraseA2Not compared — the two pools are counted one word at a time, so a phrase has no score

The post office is where you send letters and collect parcels. A counter, a queue, and a form for everything.

In Britain it is also a bank, a bureau de change and the place you renew a passport or tax a car, which is why rural branches matter so much and why closing them causes such anger. The Post Office and Royal Mail are separate companies, which surprises people. The Horizon scandal, in which hundreds of subpostmasters were wrongly prosecuted, is one of the worst miscarriages of justice in British history.
