Other forms: proclamations
A proclamation is a public official announcement. Issue a proclamation, a royal proclamation, read the proclamation.
It is the formal instrument by which a head of state announces something, and in Britain a proclamation is still read aloud from set places when a monarch dies. The word implies solemnity: nobody makes one about a car park closure.
