raging

UK/ˈɹeɪd͡ʒɪŋ/US/ˈɹeɪd͡ʒɪŋ/
adjectiveB22 meaningsCommon in everyday speech and writing · #4,648 of 15,258neutral

Raging means violently strong, or furious with anger. A raging fire, raging torrent, absolutely raging.

Of natural forces it means at full violence — a raging storm, a raging river, a raging fever. Of a person it means very angry, and in British informal speech raging on its own means furious. A raging success and a raging debate use the word as a plain intensifier. Note rage, the noun; and that road rage and similar compounds are all built on it.
