realization

UK/ˌɹɪə.laɪˈzeɪ.ʃən/US/ˌɹiə.lɪˈzeɪ.ʃən/

Other forms: realizations

A realization is the moment of coming to understand something. It was there all along and now you have seen it.

It usually arrives suddenly and often unwelcomely, so the realization that he had left the keys inside is a familiar sort of moment. It takes that. There is a second and quite separate sense meaning the making of something real, so the realization of a plan is its achievement, and finance uses it for turning assets into cash. British English usually spells it with an s. The verb is realize, which also means simply to notice.
