recheck

verbB1+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #10,444 of 15,258mostly spoken

Other forms: rechecked, rechecking

To recheck is to check something a second time. Recheck the figures, rechecked the door, recheck before sending.

The value of it is real and limited: a second pass by the same person catches far less than a second pass by a different one, because you re-read what you meant rather than what you wrote. Rechecking under time pressure catches least of all. Note that the re- means again.
